Grimdark

No clean heroes, no guaranteed victories, no sense that good triumphs simply because it should. Grimdark strips away the genre's comforting illusions — war is atrocity, power corrupts, and the darkness isn't atmosphere but argument. Characters die. Causes are compromised. For readers who want fantasy that takes the world seriously and refuses to comfort them.
